Fotopedia Women of the World
A tribute to the diversity, beauty and strength of women around the world. Presented by the World Bank and Fotopedia.
Discover the women of the world and witness their fighting spirit in the face of human, political, religious or dramatic events. This poignant combination of political engagement and aesthetic vision will trigger something inside you.
A woman whose daughter had just been saved from malaria, girl-soldiers in Mozambique, nuns in the convents in France, Ivory Coast healers who are feared for their power,… - here are just a few of the hundreds of moving scenes composing this magnificent sociological study.
A professional photographer for 35 years, Olivier Martel carefully assembled these unique images from 75 different countries. Influences from his studies of painting and sculpture are clearly felt. Some of this work was displayed in the "Femmes Eternelles” exhibition in Paris in 2011, and is also available as a book from the Editions Phillipe Rey. In Olivier’s own words: “It's about giving people their dignity in a photographic homage that takes the form of a search for beauty.”
